Most youth track meets are sanctioned by USATF or the Amateur Athletic Union, hereinafter AAU. AAU adopts the rules of USATF for Track Rules but, it does have its own set of rules that govern its events, etc.

AAU Qualifying - The top 6 finishers at the Association (State) meet qualify for the Regional Meet. The top 4 Finishers from the Regional, qualify for the Junior Olympics.

 

 

 

AAU Age Groupings - Groupings for both boys and girls:

 

 

Primary - 8 years old

 

Sub-Bantam - 9 years old

 

Bantam - 10 years old

 

Sub-Midget - 11 years old


Midget - 12 years old

 

Sub-Youth - 13 years old

 

Youth - 14 years old

 

Intermediate - 15&16 years old

 

Young - 17& 18 years old
